Troublesome Powerpoint: when things don't convert
If you're administering a Breeze Presentation server, you'll sometimes find troublesome Breezo's that won't convert. Erich Peters from AVHQ has a great little Powerpoint presentation, pre-flight checklist and some advice on where to look in the logs.
If a PowerPoint presentation is unsuccessfully published here are a few things to try:
- Save the presentation as a 95-XP presentation instead of a 2003 presentation.
- Check to make sure you do not have multiple master slides
- Check to make sure you do not have empty text boxes anywhere on stage or off stage. Breeze sees these as empty shapes and does not know how to interpret them.
- Check to make sure there are no embedded OLE objects. If there are then right click them and “Save as a Picture”, then reinsert them as an image.
- Check to make sure you are not using any non-supported animations in the PowerPoint presentation.
A very good source of knowledge about the Breeze “Process” and where it may have gone wrong is the Log File on the Breeze server (typically C:/Breeze/Logs). If you have access to this file it will detail the conversions on a slide by slide basis.

If you look closely you can see that the logs tell you the slide number containing the problem, and although a bit vauge, it does tell you what’s wrong too. The easiest way to quickly search the log file is to use the Edit/Find command and look for the Breeze session on the email you received by entering "project number".
